3 Reasons to Own a Dog

Bolt.jpg

If you have never owned a dog, you are missing out! The furry, four-legged friend of humans is such a great companion. The animated movie Bolt (affiliate link) (starring the voices of John Travolta and Miley Cyrus) displays how loyal and loving “man’s best friend” can be.

I currently don’t own a dog, but I long for the days growing up when I did. My dog’s name was Shadow and he was an awesome dog. Shadow was a Black Lab and Cocker Spaniel mix (don’t ask). He was a medium sized dog with longer hair, and the coloring and marking of a Rottweiler.

Shadow could do tricks that would put all of the other dogs to shame: sit, lay down, crawl, speak, whisper, sit-up, stand-up, walk on his hind legs, rollover, and my favorite play dead. But this was no ordinary play dead. First, he would sit-up on his back legs. Then, you would say “bang” while making a gun with your fingers. And, he would fall over on his back with his legs in the air. He was a cool dog.

Here are three reasons why I, and you should too, want a dog:

  1. Dogs are loyal. In the movie Bolt (affiliate link), the dog Bolt, spends most of the movie trying to get back to his owner after being accidentally shipped across country. For whatever reason, a dog is absolutely loyal to its owner. The better you treat a dog, the more loyal it is going to be. It will adopt your family as its family and protect it like you are part of his or her pack. No matter what is happening in the rest of your life, your dog will still be loyal. There aren’t many people in your life that you can probably say that about.
  2. Dogs love it when you get home. Whenever you return home the dog will run to greet you like you have been away for two months and it can’t believe you are finally home. This is great when you have had a bad day or just need a pick me up. When you get home from work, school, or whatever, have had a day you just want to forget, and walk through the door – it is some of the world’s best medicine to have the dog greet you with a wagging tail.
  3. Dogs are so much better than cats. This one is the icing on the cake to owning a dog. Let’s face it we all know someone in our life who is a cat person, do you want to be a cat person? No! Dogs love people and want to please you; a cat would leave the second it got a chance and not come back if it weren’t for the food. Dogs will bring you things you want; cats will bring you dead animals. Dogs go to the bathroom outside; cats go to the bathroom in your house and make it stink. I could go on, but you get the point.

At some point I hope to introduce my daughters to the joy of owning a dog. They already get to experience one at a nearby relatives but, they need one that will sleep in their room to protect them.

When you do go to get your dog, go to an animal shelter or dog pound. There are plenty of places that have dogs that need a good home. Go give them one.

Compared to my other posts, this post is a lighter topic and is sprinkled with humor. I will try to post some like these every now and then to keep things from getting to serious.

I would love to hear what you think about the blog so far. Also, if there are any movies you would like to have a post written on, please let me know. You can let me know what you think or leave suggestions by commenting in the comment section of a post or sending me a not from the contact page.
